Vinyl Liner Pools

The vinyl liner in-ground swimming pool has been popular in the Midwest because of its durability in the harsh winter climate. While innovations have made other types of in-ground pools just as enduring, there have been many improvements to vinyl liner pools as well including a extensive variety of shapes, sizes and liner designs.

Basically, a vinyl liner pool is a metal wall pool built in the ground. The name comes from the large, custom-cut sheet of vinyl that covers or lines the inner steel wall and the smoothed pool floor. The pool arrives at your home as a complete kit with pre-cut steel wall panels, wall braces and the liner. SEE THE CONSTRUCTION of a vinyl liner pool.

Pros

  1. Pools can come in almost any size or shape desired
  2. Vinyl liner available in a large choice of colors and patterns including tile motifs
  3. As a kit containing all the pre-engineered and manufactured components, the pool requires less time to build and complete
  4. Cost of pool and installation is much less than fiberglass or shot-crete

Cons

  1. Vinyl liner pools are susceptible to ground movement which causes walls, floor and pipes to shift over time
  2. Pool liner can easily be punctured causing water leakage
  3. Wear and water chemicals will eventually require liner to be placed 5 – 8 years
